The diverse technical environment at 4J means that you may need more than one computer account, or Logon ID, to accomplish your goals. All 4J staff and students are assigned a 4JNet ID. This is username and password is used to authenticate you to email, file servers, the webfilter, and other Technology Services. Your computer account(s) and security are intrinsically linked together. You must protect your personal information and any sensitive data that you work with.

Computer security is critical for all networked devices. Network Services provides security software and information to help protect your computer from viruses, worms, hacking attempts, and data theft. Both Microsoft and Apple release regualr security updates for their operating systems. You should check for updates once a week or configure your device to check for udpates automatically. Securing your computer or the computers in your school/department will not only help keep your personal information and data secure but it will help protect others by not spreading viruses and other forms of malware.
