1. In the Settings menu on the left column of the Dashboard, click the Writing link.
2. The settings with red boxes around them will be the ones to review and consider changing.

  • Formatting: If you would like emoticons to replace things like :-), check the first box. However, keep in mind that sometimes symbols that are typed that aren't intended to be an emoticon will be converted to an emoticon, especially when typing math and science equations, or sentences with parentheses. If you would like incorrect XHTML to be corrected by WordPress check the second box.
  • Default Post Category: If you have a set of post categories, select the default category that will be assigned to each post when you create one. You will have the option to change the post category to a different category when you create a post.
  • Default Link Category: If you have a set of link categories, select the default category that will be assigned to each link when you create one. You will have the option to change the link category to a different category when you create a link.
  • Press This: Read through the description of the Press This button, so you have a complete understanding of its function.
  • Last Step: After entering all the settings, click the Save Changes button.
2. Click this link: Reading Settings to go to the next set of instructions.
